Friends of Coppett Hill - Working Parties on Coppett Hill
Members of the Trust and the Friends regular meet for working parties on the Hill.
Funds raised and received for the care of the Hill are matched by our willingness to contribute to the maintenance of the Hill.
We undertake pruning of gorse, and removal of bracken from some areas - especially in areas where we want to encourage the breeding of butterflies, so that orchids can thrive. We remove bracken to allow the natural heather to thrive. Bracken is not removed by cutting; we have a 'bracken bash' at one time in the growth cycle where we try to damage the bracken roots to inhibit growth. We remove Sycamore trees which otherwise threaten to take over. We have planted young oak trees in areas of woodland.
All of the maintenance is guided by the findings of the report made to assess the state of the Hill - expert naturalists have pointed out the tasks to be done in specific areas.
